There’s no substitute for you

There’s no substitute for you

Every believer is hand-crafted by God, empowered and enabled to glorify Him like no other created being ever could.

You are more important than you think.

I am not making this up. God himself tells us in Ephesians 2:10 that we are, each and every one of us, his masterpieces. He didn’t break the mold after he made you because he didn’t use a mold. You are the loving product of his intentional design.

God had a specific purpose in mind when he made you. A strategic role in the story of redemption. A unique function within the artistic expression he calls the church. A key contribution to the eternal plan. You alone can fulfill the purpose he had in mind. You have no understudy in the wings.

You may find all this easier to believe concerning your missionary friends. They seem to be a cut above. Uniquely gifted. Uniquely called. But their uniqueness is no more special than your own, and they could never do for themselves what you can do for them.

The reason God tells you to love others, edify others, encourage others--all those one another commands--is because you have something to offer. Something vital. Something that the missionaries you love cannot thrive without.

No one else has your particular combination of DNA, personal history, personality, education, training, gifts and desires. No one else can reflect God quite the way you can. That’s why you are needed. That’s why there is no substitute for you.

If you don’t offer the special care for which you were designed, who will?
